There's a new hat in town

And another finished project - my pink 'Nippertales' hat (pattern from Magnits). Now, I'd knitted one of these previously as a pressie, and knew that I'd have to alter the pattern to fit my bunched dreads through the turtlenecks. I was using some hand-dyed wool that I'd bought from Handweaver's Studio at Ally Pally in a yummy pink colourway. Did the usual tension square and found that the yarn knitted up to 3.5 sts per inch on 6mm, rather than the recommended 5sts per inch on 5mm. So I had to recalculate the whole pattern. Not difficult, really, and it knitted up pretty fast. The yarn came in a 100g hank, and I've some left over for felted flowers. It's not a hat you can pull on and off super quick, as you do need to kinda adjust your pigtales. But nonetheless, I absolutely *love* it! It will join the rest of my collection and fit in rather well.

Next up - a few more rows needed to finish the Executive Funk, then a skein to ball up for another not-to-be-disclosed pressie. I've the felt balls and jewellery to do more of and the techniques to post. The forgotten peg-loom sample? Waiting to be finished and felted. Then there's the plastic-bags-into-yarn techniques to post from yesterday's workshop. And I promised Hazel ages ago that I'd enlighten her and everyone else about how to use the knitting frame. Finally, I *must* email Anna and Amy. Such a busy girl!

That's fantastic. Was going to say it looked as if the pattern was written for you - until I re-read, and realised of course it was... Looks brilliant.

wow, that hat is very cute, and I love the yarn! I think I might have to attempt a crochet version of that pattern - I have some handdyed DK in shades of red, gold, and green that I've been hunting the ideal project for, but I'll experiment with some cheapass acrylic first. Your dreads are just slightly shorter than mine - how long have you had them in now?

I think the hat would crochet fine - it's a very simple structure.

These dreads started growing naturally about january time, and my boyfriend has been encouraging and maintaining them.. I've been dead fussy about how they look, as this is my 3rd crop and I want these to stay! Jeez, my 1st ones were totally home-grown and really fat and thin. My 2nd ones an ex put in and I hated them.. hopefully these will grow into lovely lush locks ;)

You're lucky to be able to have a "dread wrangler" on hand :) I backcombed my first set in myself just over three months ago, and have been trying to maintain them as best I can, but I think the back is starting to suffer a bit. I thought mine were going to be too skinny at first but now they're fattening up nicely - it's amazing how they develop over time, isnt it?

Love the nippertails. Looks really well on you! Hey, don't worry about the knitting frame demo - we can wait. Just do it when you can. I know that feeling when you have a list of things you've promised people you'll do and then you suddenly wonder where you're going to find the time?!!!

Your nippertails looks great! It's the first I've seen anyone else make and it's so exciting to see someone else wearing my design. Thanks for letting me know you made it!
